A nice leather sofa is perhaps the most important piece of furniture in your living room. Indeed, it not only accommodates you and your family for much of the day, it also makes your living room look stylish and welcoming. Your needs
Do you need a large sofa that is able to accommodate a growing family or can you make do with a sofa bed that is able to accommodate the occasional guest? Will your new couch be in the way of a door or be blocking radiator? Will it fit into a space and let you move around the room freely or will it take up space and confine you to squeezing around the sides? You will need to consider all of these questions (and more) before eyeing-up any cheap leather suites.
Space
When it comes to space, buying a leather couch is a lot like buying a bed – you should choose the largest you can fit in the space available without it compromising the overall look of the room. The best way to work out your optimal size is to measure your living room and draw up a plan on some graph paper. Remember to consider the movement of the doors (and maybe even the windows) when drawing up your plan.
Shape
Shape can be a key factor when purchasing a new leather couch. Indeed, whilst stylish low back sofas are a great choice for rooms that have low ceilings, they may not provide enough support if you suffer with a bad back. High back sofas provide much more support yet can sometimes make a smaller room look crowded. Leather corner sofas and modular sofas are often very versatile solutions as they can be used to great effect in awkward spaces.
Fillings
The material that is contained inside your new leather couch can have a large effect on both your personal comfort and the appearance of your living room. For example, foam-filled sofas are relatively firm in feel and appearance, and generally regain their shape quite well after being sat on. In contrast, feather-filled sofas have a squishier look and feel, and will most likely need to be plumped each day to keep them looking good. As well as feel and appearance, you will also need to consider whether any of your family members have allergies which could be triggered by certain fillings.
Sofa beds
It really wasn’t that long ago that pulling out a sofa bed was akin to pulling out teeth i.e. neither prospect was welcome but both seemingly couldn’t be avoided. Thankfully, sofa beds are now far more comfortable (and stylish) and can come in very handy, especially if you aren’t blessed with much space. Remember to ensure you have enough room for them to extend before making any purchase.
